Agnes Caudy, age 100, of Lincoln and formerly of Ogallala, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, in her home. Agnes was born March 10, 1913 in Prague, Nebr., to Frank and Francis (Camek) Vasa. She was the youngest of eight children. Her parents moved to Arthur County, Nebr., where they homesteaded. Agnes attended country school in Arthur County. After the death of her father, her older brother John Vasa took over the homestead and Agnes and her brother Jim Vasa moved with their mother to Weston, Nebr. She attended school through the eighth grade and then became a domestic maid in Omaha. On May 4, 1937 Agnes married James R. Caudy. To this union six children were born. James and Agnes ranched in Keith County and later moved to Ogallala. Agnes was a homemaker and mother. After her children were grown, she provided child care for several families and enjoyed working with young people. When their son Paul became ill, they moved to Denver and cared for him until his death. Agnes moved to Lincoln in 2011. Agnes was a member of St. Lukes Catholic Church where she served on the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary. Her hobbies included cooking and making dill pickles. In her later life she pursued quilting and making rugs. She enjoyed sharing her handiwork with her friends. Preceding her in death was her husband of 65 years, two sons: Paul G. Caudy and James C. Caudy, two sons-in-law: Leroy Chapman and Carrie Dudden; and a daughter-in-law Rita Caudy. Survivors include her children: Jerome Caudy of Dayton, Ohio; David (Mary) Caudy of Lincoln, Nebr.; Joan Chapman of Littleton, Colo.; and Antonia (Edward) Schwartz of Thornton, Colo. Ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Bonnie & Guy Bechtel of Ogallala. The family chose cremation. The Rosary and Wake Service will be Friday, July 26, at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Lukes Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest the Celebrant.
