Vitula “Babe” I. Hudson, age 97, of Ogallala, passed away Saturday August 17, 2019 at Indian Hills Manor.
Babe was born February 23, 1922, to Louis and Vitula Mae (Rowland) Cooney on a farm northeast of Brule, Nebraska. She attended school in Brule, graduating from High School there in 1940.
She was the youngest of five children.
In 1943, she married Daniel C. Hudson. The couple moved to and resided in San Francisco, California during the last two years of World War II in order that Vitula could be near Daniel. He was serving in the Unites States Navy and saw duty in the South Pacific.
At the end of World War II, Daniel and Vitula returned to Ogallala. For many years she was engaged in childcare operations for many residents of the Ogallala area. Many may remember that she also served as the local distributor for the Denver Post Newspaper for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; 1 son, Teddy Hudson; 3 brothers; Arthur L. Cooney, Emory R. Cooney, Melvin (Jack) J.Cooney; and 1 sister, Marjorie Mae Dunwoody.
Vitula is survived by 4 sons; Tim (Khuyen) Hudson, of Ogallala; Darrell (Dorothy), of Virginia; Kurt (Helen) Hudson, of Alliance; Todd (Linda) Hudson, of Ogallala, 14 grandchildren, several great-grand-children; 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
Vitula is remembered most often for her patience and unwavering effort to mentor all the children placed in her care.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 23, 2019 in the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel in Ogallala, from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. in the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chuck Rager of the First United Methodist Church of Ogallala officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Luke's Catholic School in Ogallala.
Interment will follow the service in the Ogallala Cemetery.
