Morris G. Sherman, age 83, of Brule, NE, passed away, Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.
Morris was born October 16, 1936 to Theodore and Mabel Ina (Higginson) Sherman in Ainsworth, NE.
Morris attended rural schools in Brown County through the 8th grade. He started farming with his father, and later received his GED.
On August 28, 1955 he was united in marriage to Betty Hartgrave in Ainsworth. The two of them made their home at Wood Lake for a short time and then moved to The Red Deer Ranch, south of Valentine. He moved to various ranches in the Nebraska Sandhills, until moving in 1967 to Brule where he helped build the interstate. Morris worked for Wayne Frates & Schow Auction Service. After that, he started his own auction service and ranched in the Brule area.
He was a member of the Brule Lion's Club for over forty years and served on the Village Board at Brule. He was the Brule Day announcer volunteer, a self-taught auctioneer, and also dug graves at the Brule Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 grandson, Peyton; 7 brothers and 1 sister.
Morris is survived by his wife, Betty, of Brule; 4 sons; Jerry (Carol) Sherman, of Brule; John (Tammy) Sherman, of Chappell, NE; Jack (Joan) Sherman, of Kearney, NE; Joe (Diana) Sherman, of Lemoyne, NE; 1 brother, Don Sherman, of O'Neil, NE; 1 sister; Marie Keim, of Ainsworth; 3 sister-in-laws; Helen Sherman, of Ainsworth; June Sherman, of Genoa, NE; Louise Sherman, of Ainsworth; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A register book signing will be held, Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. in the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorial Service will be held, at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the United Church of Christ, Congregational in Brule, NE with Pastor Lisa Hadler officiating.
Interment of the cremains will be in the Brule Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Brule Lion's Club and the United Church of Christ, Congregational in Brule.
