Long time sand hills rancher, former teacher, and author, Lowell Rudd passed away Sunday April 1, 2018 the age of 98 in the Christian Homes Health Care Center of Holdrege. Lowell was born on May 13, 1919 in Keith County to George and Ella (Bryant) Rudd. Lowell was a lifelong resident of Keith County. An ardent believer, she was baptized in the Birdwood Creek by Stanley Malmgren, then the Pastor of the Glen Echo Church.
Traveling on horseback, Lowell attended rural school as a child. She graduated from the Normal Department of North Platte High School at age 16 and taught for ten years. She then lived on the ranch and helped with the work there until retirement. Lowell loved studying the natural history of Western Nebraska, including birds, grasses, and flowers native to the area. Genealogy was also a passion of hers.
Lowell is preceded in death by her parents, Siblings Warren Rudd, Wayne Rudd, and Lois ( Jack) Rudd McClellan.
Survivors include her niece , Phyllis (Bob) Rudd Wid, and their children, Kelli (Bob) Wid Berry, Martin (Heidi) Wid; and great- great nephews Martin Berry, Coleman Berry, and Luke Berry; and a host of Cousins and relatives.
Visitation will be Friday April 6, 2018 in the Draucker Funeral Home from 9:00 am till 5:00 pm. Services will be Saturday April 7th at 10 am in the Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala, with Rev. Mark Baldwin officiating.
Burial will be in Paxton Cemetery following the service.
