James "Jim" David Macomber age 84 of Arthur passed away Saturday , June 9, 2018, in his home. Jim was born on March 12, 1934 to Renold and Viola Bernice (Haney) Macomber in Hyannis. He grew up on the DumBell Ranch north of Hyannis until 1947 when the family moved to a ranch south of Whitman known as the J.H. Haney Cattle Company, and was later known as the Macomber Cattle Company. Jim attended High School until his junior year.
Jim married Barbara Moran on June 1, 1952 in Hyannis. The couple made their home on the Macomber Ranch until 1983 when they moved to Arthur. Jim continued to work on the Macomber Ranch until he went to work for Joe Cullinan, Norm Kramer and Mick Knott on the Lute Ranch.
Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Hyannis for 50 plus years. He served on the Arthur County election board for several years and the Arthur County Ag Society for quite some time as well. In his younger days Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting and camping. He was a big Husker fan.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother in law; James and Sadie Haney, one brother Wayne Macomber who passed away in 2008, and a grandson Obie Weems who passed away in 1988.
Survivors include his wife Barbara, Daughter Carol (Dean) Weems of Arthur, 1 son Jim and husband Mark Kochevar of Rancho Mirage, CA. 1 granddaughter Jenny (Andy) Bures of Arthur, 2 Grandsons Riley (Jennifer) Weems of Alliance and Jeremy (Julie) Weems of Broken Bow and 9 Great Grandchildren.
Memorial Services will beWednesday, June 13th at 2:00 pmin the Arthur High School Gym. Rev. Blake Wilkes of the Arthur Baptist Church will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later time in the Arthur Cemetery. A Memorial has been established to the Arthur Betterment Authority and the Arthur County AG Society. Online condolences can be sent by signing the on-line Guest book. The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend.
