OBITUARY
Martha Priesner, 98, longtime Ogallala resident, died April 13, 2011 in Golden
Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.
Martha Ray Priesner was born August 25, 1912 in Kearney County, Nebraska to
Jesse and Clara Cowperthwaite Welch. In 1913 the family moved to Kissimmee,
Florida to ranch. The family returned to Nebraska in 1914 by covered wagon. They
settled in the Beatrice area.
Martha graduated from Beatrice High School in 1930. She attended the University
of Nebraska in Lincoln for two years. Martha married Willard Priesner on August
27, 1934 and the couple made their home on a farm southwest of Lincoln. In 1936
they moved to Rockford, Nebraska to farm. In 1938 they moved to Blue Springs,
Nebraska and again moved to Ogallala in 1940. Willard and Martha both worked for
Priesner Electric and Plumbing.
In 1954 Martha taught Rural School Districts 29 and 22 in Keith County. In 1957
she went to work for Goodalls/TRW until her retirement in 1974.
She enjoyed reading, playing dominos, and taking care of her houseplants and
rose bushes. Martha lived at Golden Ours for many years.
Preceding her in death was her husband Willard in 1969, two daughters Marjorie
Ruth Priesner in 1945 and Jeraldine Romero in 1993, son Dennis, grandson
Kristian Priesner, five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her son William Priesner of Bushnell, Ill., and many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be Friday, April 15, at 3 p.m. at the Ogallala
Cemetery with Rev. Chuck Rager of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
