 OBITUARY

 
Dale E. Wiest, 76, of Julesburg, Colo. and formerly of Brule, Nebr., died April 12, 2011 in Sterling Regional Medical Center of Sterling Colo. following a brief illness.

Dale was born August 20, 1934 in Brule, the son of Fred and Hazel Dutton Wiest. After graduating from Brule High School in 1951 he attended Kearney State College.

On April 18, 1954 he married Thelma Mae Welsh. The couple made their home in Brule.

Dale was employed by Goodalls and TRW in Ogallala for over 25 years and also rented farm ground from Charles Welsh and William Soehl. He worked as a rural mail carrier out of Julesburg for 8 1/2 years until his retirement in 1997.

In 1983 he purchased the OK Liquor Store in Julesburg, Colo. and operated it for many years. He moved to Julesburg in 1997.

He enjoyed playing poker with his son Andy and grandchildren and visiting the casinos. He served on the Brule School Board and was a member of the Brule Lions Club and the Julesburg Lions Club. Dale was a member of the Brule Congregational Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Thelma in 1989; son Chuck in 1990; brothers Mitch Wiest and Boyd Wiest and one sister Delores Loar.

Survivors include two sons: Arvid (Althea) Wiest of Beatrice and Andy (Kris) Wiest of Omaha; two daughters: Deb (Harold) Sloan of Tucumcari, NM. and Doris Wiest of Brule. Two brothers: Don Wiest of Ogallala and Herb Wiest of Denver, Colo. and one sister Donna Jones of San Diego, CA. Two sisters-in-law Margaret Westerbuhr of Ogallala and Erma Hulinsky of Brule. Special Friend Faye Wright of Julesburg, Colo. Six grandchildren: Aron (Wendy) Wiest of Lincoln; Abby (Cameron) Houseman of Olathe, KS; Zak (Annette) Sloan of Albuquerque, NM; Jill Wiest of Omaha; Nikki Wiest and Jenna Wiest, both of Omaha. three great-grandchildren: Jacob and Aubrey Wiest and Cohen Houseman and also several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, April 15, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m. in the United Church of Christ, Congregational of Brule. Rev. Lauran Heidenreich will officiate.
