OBITUARY
Vyla Brown, 53, of Ogallala, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 in the Ogallala
Community Hospital.

Vyla was born February 17, 1958 in Cozad, the daughter of Amos and Emma Koch
Jurjens. She grew up on a farm south of Eustis. Vyla graduated May 17, 1976 from
Eustis High School. She then attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont from
1976 to August 1977.
She completed her Bachelor of Science Degree at Columbia College in Columbia,
MO. in August 1980. Vyla moved to Oklahoma City and worked several years for
Southwest Shooters Supply Co. and also for the local Federal Savings and Loan.
In 1983 she moved to Cozad and was employed as the branch manager of American
Charter Savings and Loan and was transferred in 1986 to the Ogallala branch.
There she met David Brown and the couple married on October 14, 1989.
Vyla was active in the community belonging to the Chamber of Commerce and the
Womens Chamber. She was a member of the Ogallala Drovers for ten years. She
served on the Make Ogallala Beautiful Board, the Ogallala Zoning Commission, and
the Civil Service Commission. Vyla participated in the Keith County Leadership
School and the Edge Course.
From 2003 to April 2007 Vyla worked as a loan officer for Lincoln Federal
Savings Bank in North Platte. During this time Vyla belonged to the North Platte
Score Chapter 254 and the Lincoln County Mortgage Bankers Association and served
on the Lincoln County Board of Realtors. She taught the Real Estate Finance
Class at Mid-Plains Community College for several years.
Vyla's recent employment was with several merchandising companies. Her hobbies
included sewing, reading, and collecting recipes. She enjoyed gardening,
fishing, and camping with her husband. She especially treasured her work as a
mortgage loan officer, helping at least 400 families to buy homes.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Von Jurjens, and several aunts
and uncles.
Survivors include her husband Dave Brown of Ogallala; two step-daughters: Jacque
Brown and her special friend Marv Willett of Omaha and
Susan and her husband Shannon Goertz of McKinney, TX. One brother Verl Jurjens
and his wife Monika and one sister-in-law Gail Jurjens, all of
Eustis. Seven grandchildren: Amanda Campbell; Austin, Jenna, & Samantha Goertz;
and Nicole, Kimberly and Allison Partch and several nieces, nephews, and a host
of friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 27, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service will be Monday, March 28, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Pauls
Lutheran Church with Rev. John Stubenrouch officiating.
Interment is in the Ogallala Cemetery. Memorials have been established to St.
Pauls Lutheran Church and the Keith County Community Foundation.
