OBITUARY
Ruth Cross, 94, lifelong resident of Arthur County, died Wednesday, March 30,
2011 in the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh.

Ruth was born May 16, 1916 to August and Nanna Christiansen Rasmussen. She was
born on her parents' homestead which is known as the Duane Wilson ranch in
Arthur County. Ruth rode a shetland pony to attend District 1 Rural School,
south and west of Arthur. She graduated from Arthur High School in 1933.
On May 22, 1939 Ruth married Wilsie Cross in Sidney. They made their home on the
Hurlburt homestead northwest of Arthur. In 1941 they moved to the Plant
homestead where they lived in a sod house that still remains.
Ruth belonged to the Happy Ranger Club. She served as president of the
American Legion Auxiliary from 1971 to 1997 and served as secretary of the
District 7 School from 1975 to 1989.
Preceding her in death was her husband Wilsie in 2001, three sisters: Alyce
O'Bryant, Eva Kennedy, and Ellen Schommer; four brothers: Kenneth, Paul, August,
and Elmer "Pete."; and one grandson Doug Cross.
Survivors include her children: Rex (Doris) Cross of North Platte; Don (Sandra)
Cross of Golden, CO; Nanna Cross of Chicago, IL; Harry (Anita) Cross of Oshkosh;
Wayne (Betty) Cross of Madison; and Robert (Jeanelle) Cross of North Platte. one
sister Paula Boyle of Loveland, CO.
Two brothers-in-law: Jean "Jake" (Lucille) Cross and Percy (LaVaughn) Cross, all
of Arthur. Fifteen grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 1 to 5 p.m. in Draucker Funeral
Home.
The Funeral Service will be Monday, April 4, at 10:30 a.m. in Arthur Baptist
Church with Rev. Ben Keene and Pastor Duane Dunwoody officiating.
Interment is in the Arthur Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the
University of Nebraska Foundation Scholarship Fund.
