OBITUARY
Delpha DeKoekkoek, 77, longtime Ogallala resident, died Thursday, March 17, 2011
in Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
Delpha was born November 19, 1933 on the family farm south of Madrid, Nebraska.
She was the daughter of Gustave E. and Elma Wiebe Friesen. She attended Madrid
Public Schools and graduated from high school with the class of 1952. She then
worked briefly at Goodall Electric and later was employed as a telephone
operator. She took several accredited classes through Mid-Plains Community
College during her later years.
On February 16, 1959 Delpha married Veldon "Slim" Fuller and the couple raised
three daughters. She had part-time employment as a cook at Educational Service
Unit 16. Later, Delpha and Slim managed the new Ogallala Housing Project. After
Slim's death Delpha worked for a photo studio touching up photos.
She was employed as a hostess at Union 76 restaurant where she met Charles J.
DeKoekkoek. Depha and Charles were married May 25, 1984. They had many
adventures together as Chuck was an over the road truck driver. Through their
travels they had the pleasure of seeing many beautiful places.
Delpha was a member of the Berean Church, now the New Hope Church. She was
baptized along with her entire family in 1976. She had a living faith in the
Jesus who saves and happily served Him by loving her children, grandchildren,
and great-grandchildren. Delpha helped with Awanas and other children
ministries. Delpha also enjoyed helping her grandchildren with all the sports
activities, often helping with practices. Her hobbies included entering her art
work, canning, and flowers at the Keith County Fair. Delpha was a member of the
Keith County Art Club and the Garden Club.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Slim Fuller, and her
brother Lowell and his wife Carol Friesen.
Survivors include her husband Chuck DeKoekkoek of Ogallala, her three daughters
Deborah Holmes of Ogallala; Kathleen and her husband Danny Hammond of Bliss,
Idaho; and Elizabeth Fuller of Twin Falls, ID. One brother James and his wife
Janet Friesen of Lakewood, CO. Also five grandchildren: Jarad Muntz, Jade Muntz,
Sarah and Ruth Holmes, and Kara Fuller; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 20, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Monday, March 21, at 10 a.m. in New Hope Worship
Center, East "O" Street, Ogallala. Revs. Eric Wait and Mark Carlton will
officiate.
Interment is in the Ogallala Cemetery. A memorial has been established to KJLT
Radio in North Platte and Radio Bible Class Ministries.
