 OBITUARY

 
Alma Graham, 94, longtime Lewellen resident, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in the Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh.

Alma Louise Graham was born January 18, 1916 on the family homestead north of Lemoyne in Arthur County, Nebraska. The daughter of Leander and May Brelsford Graham, she was the second of five children.

Alma attended the country school, District #6 of Arthur County, known as Melrose, for her grade school years. She graduated from Arthur County High School with the class of 1933. That fall, she took a job teaching two students at the Gessford school, stayed with the Dunkers on the Shoels place and rode three miles horseback to school. The next fall she took the Summers school north of Arthur with eight students. In the fall of 1938 she taught at the Spotted Horse School in Arthur County and continued teaching another 43 years. Overall she taught forty-five years in nine country schools. She taught 15 years at the Garden County Dist. 74, the Thornton School and 17 years at the Garden County Dist. 30.

One of Alma's accomplishments was getting her college degree in 1962 after working on it during summers and part time for 28 years. She became an accomplished musician, both playing and teaching music. She played the piano, guitar, accordion and violin. Miss Graham served the Lord by helping with Sunday church services at the Lewellen Rest Home. In 1981 Alma retired to her Lewellen home with her pets, spending her time putting on additions, gardening and utilizing her talents teaching Bible classes and Sunday school. In 1999 she moved to the Riverview Assisted Living in Lewellen and later moved to the nursing home in Oshkosh.

Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters Irene Guy and Mildred Morrell, brother-in-law Roy Morrell, brother Edgar Graham, and sister-in-law Jean Graham and brother Harold Graham.

Survivors are her sister-in-law Dottie Graham of Scottsbluff and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, January 8, at 1:30 p.m. in the Community Wesleyan Church of Lewellen with Rev. Lynn Lutz officiating.
