OBITUARY
Tom McGinley, 81, of Ogallala and formerly of Keystone, died September 14, 2010
in the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Thomas George McGinley was born October 23, 1928 in Ogallala, Nebr., the son of
John B. and Gertrude E. Mead McGinley. Tom attended schools in Alliance, Nebr.
and graduated from St. Agnes Catholic High School in 1947.
After attending college at New Mexico A & M for two years, he returned to the
family ranch. In 1950 Tom enlisted in the
Air Force. After being discharged on January 28, 1954 Tom again moved to the
ranch.
On July 12, 1952 Tom was united in marriage to Wanda Harden in Alliance. In May
1955 they moved to Keystone, Nebr. and they managed the Buckhorn Springs Ranch
for Gerald McGinley. Tom retired and moved to Ogallala in 1987. He then operated
a recreational vehicle campground by Lake Ogallala from 1989 to 2000. He was a
sewing machine repairman for Silver Thimble Sewing Center for eighteen years,
retiring in February 2010.
He served on the Educational Service Unit 16 Board for twenty four years and the
District 34 School Board for six years. Tom was the Nebraska representative on
the National High School Rodeo Board from 1963 to 1966. He served on the
Ogallala Roundup Rodeo Board from 1958 to 1972 and on the Nebraska State High
School Rodeo Board from 1972 to 1978. Tom was a member of the Nebraska
Cattlemans Association and volunteered as a 4-H leader of the Boots n' Saddles
Club in Keith County from 1978 to 1987. From 2002 through May 2010 Tom was on
the Board of Directors of the Keith County Senior Center. He was a member of St.
Lukes Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wanda in 1985, daughter Elizabeth,
grandson Gerald GJ McGinley, sister Aileen, brother Dan McGinley, and
sister-in-law Norma McGinley.
Survivors include his children: Scott (Carolyn) McGinley of Rapid City, SD;
Larry (Nancy) McGinley of Ogallala; and Annabelle (William) Payton of Hartford,
KS. Three brothers: Pat McGinley and Jim (Sandy) McGinley, all of Oshkosh; and
Mike (Joan) McGinley of Lisco. Two sisters: Dorothy Morrow of Omaha and Betty
McGinley of Kittredge, CO. A sister-in-law Joyce McGinley of Dillon, MT. Eight
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Cremation was chosen and there will be no viewing. A Rosary Service will be
Saturday, September 18, at 10 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at
10:30 a.m. in St. Lukes Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest the Celebrant.
A memorial has been established in his name. Inurnment in the Ogallala
Cemetery with military honors by the Keith County Veterans Organization.
