 OBITUARY

 
Roy Conway, Sr., 89, longtime Ogallala resident, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 in Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.

Roy Lee Conway, Sr. was born April 3, 1921 at Mt. Vernon, MO., the son of Ancel and Stella Myrtle (Mills) Conway.
He received his education and grew to manhood in Verona and Pierce City, MO.

Roy was united in marriage to Ludella Otillia Fritz on July 19, 1942 at Freistatt, MO.

Mr. Conway entered the
armed services in July, 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, MO. He was stationed in Camp Phillips, KS, Cheyenne, WY., and Seattle, WA., prior to going to the South Pacific for eleven months. He was discharged in October, 1945 at Ft. Leavenworth, KS.

Roy then farmed in the Pierce City, MO area until 1956 when he and Ludella and their family moved to Denver, CO.
Roy was employed as a carpenter by several contractors. The family moved to Ogallala, NE. in 1973. Roy continued in the carpentry trade until his retirement in 1996.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Ogallala,
VFW, DAV, and American Legion. Roy's hobbies included hunting, fishing, and wood working.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Ludella in 1997, daughter Mary Ann Conway, five brothers William, Joseph, Elmer, Fred, and Albert, and two sisters Carrie Knight and Mary Johnston.

Survivors include his children Roy Conway, Jr. and his wife Janet; Virginia (Ronald) Yeager; and Diana Alcorn, all of Ogallala. Karolyn (Lowell) Moran of Walden, CO. and Lou Ella (Duane) Armstrong of Loveland, CO. Also 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Cremation was chosen and there will be no viewing. Memorial Service will be Monday, May 3, at 11 a.m. in Draucker Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Pick of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Military Honors will be given by Keith Co. Veterans Organization. A memorial has been established to the American Legion Post #419 of Freistatt, MO.

Inurnment will take place at a later date in a cemetery at Freistatt, MO.
