Rod Shelburne, 71, lifetime Keith County resident, died Saturday, August 28, 2010, in Aurora Medical Center South, Aurora, CO.

Rodger Clan Shelburne was born July 26, 1939 at the family farm near Ogallala. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He then attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, NE, graduating in 1957.

He returned to Ogallala and joined his father in the aerial spraying business. In 1975 Rod acquired the business from his parents and operated Shelburne Aerial Spraying until the summer of 2009 at which time he retired.

In 1960 he married Judy Gordon of Ogallala. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 27, 2010. He and Judy loved riding their Harley-Davidsons and going to Sturgis for many years.

Rod was a fifty year member of the Ogallala Volunteer Fire Department, a ten year member of the Brule Volunteer Fire Department and a 50 year member of the Ogallala Elks Club. He was on the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Aviation Trade Association for many years. He often used his spray plane aiding the fire departments in fighting rangeland fires and participating in aerial searches. He was certified as a reserve deputy for the Keith County Sheriff's Department in 1978 and served in this capacity until 2006.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife Judy Shelburne of Ogallala; a brother Lynn Shelburne of Aurora, CO; sister-in-law Nancy Cumming of Grant; nephew Ryan Shelburne and family of Longmont, CO; niece Tandy and Bob Overstreet and family of Grant; sisters-in-law Marian Clouse and family, and Jean and her husband Walt England and family, all of Ogallala.

Cremation was chosen and there will be no viewing. A Memorial Service will be on Friday, September 3, at 2 p.m. in the Ogallala Auditorium on East B Street. The Ogallala Honor Guard will officiate.
