OBITUARY
Mildred Peters passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on March 16, 2010 in
Denver, Colorado. She was a long-time Ogallala resident who
will be remembered for her gentle, kind and caring nature and her devotion to
her family and her community. Mildred was born April 15, 1915 and was preceded
in death by her parents, Bessie and H.R. “Rush” Chingren. The family lived in
Lemoyne and later moved to Ogallala where Mildred grew up and eventually
attended Ogallala High School. Upon graduation she began a teaching career that
lasted more than 30 happy years as she relished in the joy of teaching and
touching hundreds of lives in the classroom. She earned her degree from Kearney
State College and spent the majority of her career as a first grade teacher at
West Fifth Elementary School in Ogallala. On May 16, 1940 Mildred married Ervin
F. Peters who preceded her in death April 12, 1993.
Mildred was an accomplished pianist, a past president of the local chapter of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), a member of the United Methodist Church and was involved in several Christian Women's groups. Her compassion, generosity and selflessness were true reflections of her strong Christian faith.
The family wishes to thank the staff of The Little Sisters of the Poor Mullen Home in Denver, CO for the wonderful care they’ve provided for Mildred. She is survived by her two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jerry and Liz Peters, Neal Peters and Dr. Mary Moody; grandchildren Tyffani Peters, Chad Peters and his wife, Sandy, Cooper Peters, Breanna and her husband, Brian Deidel; great grandchildren Daniel and Joscelyn Peters.
Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, at Draucker Funeral Home, in Ogallala, followed by a funeral service Wednesday, March 24 at 2 p.m. Rev. Phil Ewert will officiate.
