 OBITUARY

 
Marion " Pat" Cole, longtime Brule resident, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2010 in the Ogallala Community Hospital after a long life and influence to many friends and family. She was born March 17, 1920 at St. Louis, MO., the daughter of Archibald C. and Elizabeth Calais Gratz. She received her early education at Great Neck, NY.

After high school graduation she graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, CA. On June 14, 1942 Pat was united in marriage to Elmer Perry Cole at Claremont. The couple resided in Keith County, Nebr., northwest of Brule, where they farmed for many years.

She was a member of United Church of Christ Congregational at Brule. Pat was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, P.E.O. HI Chapter, the Merry Madrigals, and the Happy Hour Garden Club. She volunteered as a leader for both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for many years.

Her hobbies included photography, nature, astronomy, gardening, playing the trumpet and vocal music, sailing, travel, camping, and bird watching.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother-in-law Charles Reed.

Survivors include her husband Elmer Cole of Brule; sons and daughters: Judy (John) Annable of Palos Verdes, CA; Doug (Jerri) Cole of Ogallala; Dave (Sandi) Cole of Liberty, MO; and Phil (Nancy) Cole of Brule. One sister Betsy Reed of Reva, VA. One brother AC (Martha) Gratz of Bakersfield, CA.
Seven Grandchildren: Dan (Beth) Cole, Becky (Andrew) Baruth, Matt (Molly) Cole, Eric (Rachel) Cole, Ty (Jen) Cole, Sam (Tami) Cole, and Katie Cole. and seven great-grandchildren: Zachary, Caleb, Nathan & Noah Cole, Ryan Baruth, Megan Marion and Benjamin Cole.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, October 18, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the Ogallala First Congregational, United Church of Christ.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, October 19, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ogallala First Congregational, United Church of Christ with Rev. Lauran Heidenreich officiating. At Pat's request, there will be no viewing.

A memorial has been established to the Girl Scouts, Spirit of Nebraska. 

Interment is in the Brule Cemetery.
