OBITUARY
Elzie Barnes, 80, of rural Brule, died August 20, 2010 in Ogallala Community
Hospital.

Elzie was born May 17, 1930 in Seminole, OK, the son of Clifford and Minnie
Tinkle Barnes. He attended school in Excelsior Elementary in Cromwell, OK.
Elzie entered the
Army
on February 20, 1948 and was stationed in Panama. He served in the anti-aircraft
artillery division. After being discharged on February 3, 1950 he was employed
at the Gates Rubber Company in Denver for thirty five years where he worked in
the mill room. He retired in 1990.
Elzie resided in Denver from 1954 to 1970. In 1965 he began spending time at his
summer home in the Lake McConaughy area. After his retirement he moved
permanently to the Reeds Landing area at the Lake.
His hobbies included fishing, boating, and water skiing. He especially enjoyed
doing handyman work. He enjoyed life and made the most of it.
Preceding him in death were his parents, twin brother Eldridge Barnes, and
sister Georgia Faye Duncan.
Survivors include his son David Barnes of Denver, CO. and his daughter Beverly
Florance of Brule. Three granddaughters: Dawn, Devon, & Marissa Florance, all of
Queen Creek, AZ. Four brothers: J.C. Barnes of
Mountlake Terrace, Washington, Ronnie Barnes of Sapulpa, OK, Bobby Barnes of
Ponca City, OK. and Phillip Barnes of Cromwell, OK. Two Sisters: Mable Sowder and Phyllis Curry, both of Cromwell,
OK.
Cremation was chosen and there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be
held at
the
home of friends Barb and Dean Clark, near Van’s Lakeview at Lake McConaughy, on
Saturday, August 28 at 2 p.m.
