OBITUARY
John B. "Bud" Ellingrod, 87, of Grand Island and formerly of Arthur, died
September 23, 2009 at his home.

Bud was born June 8, 1922 in Arthur County, Nebraska to Ben and Ida Johnson
Ellingrod. Bud graduated from
eighth grade at School District 33 in Arthur County. He helped on the family
ranch at a young age occasionally working at the neighboring Triangle Ranch.
In 1943 he joined the
United
States Marine Corp and spent twenty six months in the South Pacific and fought
in the Battle of Peleliu. After being discharged in December 1945 Bud returned
home to the family ranch. Bud met Polly Anna Ludlow and they were married in
1952. The couple resided on the Arthur County family ranch. Polly preceded him
in death in 1983 and Bud continued to ranch until 1998 when the ranch sold.
He then lived in North Platte for several years and in 2002 he moved to Grand
Island. There he was employed as a security guard for the Blue Knight Security
Company at McLane Foods.
Bud served as one of the first leaders of the Hoof & Horns 4-H Club and served
on the Board of the Arthur Non-Stock Telephone Cooperative.. He was a longtime
member of The American Hereford Association and the Selective Service Draft
Board. Bud was a proud member of the
VFW,
American Legion, and was a former commander of
the Everett J. Yates Post 207.
Preceding him in death was his wife Polly, brother Robert, sister Dorothy
Enfield, and grandson Luke C. Tullis.
Survivors include his son Randy (Loyce) Ellingrod of Clearmont, WY; two
daughters Holly (Ed) Tullis of Arnold, NE and Ruth (Mike) Perry of Clearmont,
WY. A sister-in-law Dorothy Ellingrod of North Platte. Also six grandchildren:
Chad (Tricia) Tullis of North Platte; Ryan (Cindy) Tullis of Arnold; Tyrell
Perry, Jena Perry, Lorianne Ellingrod, and Sara Ellingrod, all of Clearmont, WY.
Also four great-grandchildren: Bryce Tullis, Luke Daniel Tullis, Bella Tullis,
and Adalei Tullis and several nieces and a nephew.
Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 25, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, Sept. 26, at 3 p.m. in the Arthur Baptist
Church with Rev. Ben Keene officiating.
Interment in the Arthur Cemetery with military honors by the United States
Marine Corp Funeral Honors Team and the Union Colony Marines Detachment 1093 of
Greeley, CO. A memorial has been established to the E.J. Yates Post 207.
