OBITUARY
Steve Hughes, age 57, longtime Brule resident, died July 6, 2009 at the Ogallala
Community Hospital.
Stephen John Hughes was born November 20, 1951 in North Platte, NE., the son of Virgil and Frances Pilkington Hughes. Steve was raised in Brule and attended Brule School, graduating in 1970.
He continued his education at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, NE. and also at Kearney State College. Steve then returned to Brule and was employed at the family business, namely Virg's Cafe. He also worked as a cook and bartender at several restaurant/ lounge businesses in Keith County. Later, Steve also worked for PAKS in Ogallala as a shift supervisor.
In 2001 he moved to eastern Nebraska and had recently returned to Ogallala.
Steve was an enthusiastic sports fan and especially followed anything Husker related. He was most dedicated to his children, grandchildren and family.
Steve was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Brule.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother Melvin Hughes.
Survivors include two daughters: Lindsay and her husband Charles Blaylock of Rapid City, SD; and Andrea and her husband Tony Herrod of Hiawatha, KS.
Two sons: Mathew Hughes
of Ogallala and Mark Hughes of Omaha.
Two brothers: Robert "Bert" Hughes and his wife Paula of Brule and Kevin
Hughes and his wife Mary Lou of Columbia, MO. Sister-in-law Sharon Hughes of
Ogallala.
Five grandchildren: Stanley and Calvin Blaylock of Rapid City, SD. and Lane Hughes, Koda & Isabella Herrod, all of Hiawatha, KS. and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, July 10, from noon to 6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 11, at 10 a.m. in St. Johns Lutheran Church of Brule. Rev. Ron Krause of Zion Lutheran Church of Grant will officiate. Interment in the Brule Cemetery. A memorial has been established to St. Johns Lutheran Church.
