 OBITUARY

Myrtle Rosie Quinn, 87, of Sidney and formerly of Oshkosh and Lodgepole, died February 27, 2009 in Memorial Health Center Extended Care of Sidney.

Myrtle Rosie Peters was born December 7, 1921, on the family homestead north of Lodgepole, NE. She was the daughter of Henning and Tora Johnson Peters. Myrtle attended Sunnyside School and graduated from eighth grade.

Myrtle did domestic work and helped on the family farm when five of her brothers went to serve in World War II. On October 16, 1948 Myrtle married Fred W. Quinn at Sidney. The couple made their home on the family farm north of Lodgepole until 1951 when they moved to the Meadows Ranch south of Lodgepole.

In 1957 the Quinns moved to the Oberfelder Ranch and in 1959 they moved back to the family farm. Myrtle ran a dairy, milking up to sixty cows twice a day, raised horses and fed many hogs while Fred worked at various jobs.

In 1972 the Quinns sold the farm and moved to the Eldred Ranch where together they took care of the cattle and horses.

In 1977 Fred and Myrtle moved to Oshkosh where Myrtle worked for Miller's Grocery Store for three years. She then went to work in the housekeeping department at Garden County Hospital. Later Myrtle became a supervisor in the laundry department, retiring in 2002 after more than twenty-three years.

Myrtle then moved to Sidney to live with her daughter Gloria and husband Ed Wilson. In 2007 she moved to Sloans Assisted Living and in January 2008 to Memorial Health Center Extended Care.

Mrs. Quinn was a member of the Francis DeBruner Post #286 in Lodgepole for fifty-eight years until that Post was closed in 2004. She then transferred membership to Lisco. Myrtle was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the  VFW Auxiliary.

Myrtle enjoyed her family and friends and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Her special joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included embroidery, crocheting, and making many quilts for family and friends. Myrtle loved yard and flower garden work.

Preceding her in death was her husband Fred of 55 years, in April 2004, two sisters Lillie Olson and Florence Peters, seven brothers Clarence, Art, Earl, Charlie, Clyde, Alfred, and Henning.
