OBITUARY
Larry Edward Ott, age 71, of Ogallala, NE passed away on September 24, 2009 at
Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, NE.
Larry was born May 23, 1938 in the home of his German immigrant grandparents at
Fairfax, South Dakota. He was the son of Frederick (Fred) George and Esther
Marie Fuhrer Ott. He spent his early life on the family farm south of Bonesteel,
SD. He received his education through the tenth grade at Bonesteel and then
graduated from high school at Fairfax, SD in 1957.
Larry served on active duty in the
US Army from 1961 to 1962 and in the Army Reserves until his discharge in 1967.
In 1962 Mr. Ott married Mary K. Laprath of Dallas, SD. The couple farmed until
her death in 1966. In 1967 he moved his young family to South Sioux City, NE.
where he was employed by the local Farmers Co-op for thirteen years serving in a
variety of positions including assistant manager. In 1972 he married Sharon
Newkirk of Sioux City, IA.
Mr. Ott married Jean M. Steele on March 13, 1982. In 1983 he moved his family to
Atchison, KS where he worked in food service, as a security guard, and as a
truck driver. In 1993 Larry and Jean Ott moved to Ogallala where he was the
owner and operator of Ott's Floor Service.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ogallala He was a member
of the
American Legion and the
Eagles Club. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, and playing cards.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister Doris Ott.
Survivors include his wife Jean Ott of Ogallala; daughter Esther (Carlos) Garcia
of Brownsville, TX; and sons Robert (Carrie) Ott of Clarksville, TN; and LTC
Paul (Mary) Ott of Pinehurst, NC. Two step-daughters: Sandra (Ernie) Manuel of
Albert Lea, MN and Lori Ann Steele of Atchison, KS. Three step-sons: Steve
Steele of Miami, FL; Jeffery (Peggy) Steele of Gibbon, NE. and Robert "Charlie"
(Juanita) Steele of So. Sioux City, NE. Two sisters Claryce Ott of Sun City, AZ
and Marilyn Faatz of Rapid City, SD and one brother Allen Ott of Cheyenne, WY.
Larry has eight grandchildren, fifteen step-grandchildren, and twelve step-great
grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 29, at 1:00 p.m. CDT in the
Calvary Bible Church of Bonesteel, SD. Rev. Russ Grimm will officiate.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church.
Interment in the Rosebud Cemetery of Bonesteel. A memorial has been established
to the First United Methodist Church of Ogallala.
