 OBITUARY

Karl Baumann, 92, longtime Keith County resident, died May 21, 2009 in the Ogallala Community Hospital.

Karl was born May 14, 1917 in German Township on a farm near Franklin, Nebraska, the son of Michael and Frances Joy Baumann.

Karl attended Pleasant View School in Smith County, Kansas.  In 1935 he came west and was employed on farms and ranches for about three years.  When working in the vicinity of Old LeMoyne, Nebraska he met Cora M. Soehl.

On April 6, 1938 Karl married Cora at the Congregational Church in Franklin.

They returned to make their home on the Soehl ranch where Cora's parents resided.  Because of the building of Kingsley Dam, the Soehl buildings had to be moved.  Then in September, 1940 Karl and Cora moved two miles north to the Alma Soehl house that had been moved away from Old LeMoyne.  They resided there for fifteen years when they rented a home in Ogallala, living there two years.  During the summer months the family returned to live at the ranch.  In September, 1957, the Baumanns moved into the house that had been in the Soehl Family for many years.

In 1928 the T-brand on the left side was recorded for the first time under the name of Herman Soehl, Jr.   It was then transferred to Karl and Cora Baumann in 1959.

Karl was a member of the Ogallala Masonic Lodge #159 AF & AM since 1945 and became a Master Mason that year.  He served as Worshipful Master in 1966-67.  He also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star   #142 since 1946 and a member of the Tehama Shrine.   He was a member of the LeMoyne Presbyterian Church since 1957.  Karl was a member of Ogallala Elks Lodge #1760  and a member of the Nebraska Stock Growers Association.  Karl was a charter member of the Keystone-Lemoyne Fire Department which was established in 1978.

Preceding him in death was his parents, wife Cora in 2006, three sisters and three brothers.
