 OBITUARY

 
John Jimenez, Sr., 79, longtime Big Springs farmer, died June 10, 2009 in the Ogallala Community Hospital. 

John was born July 28, 1929 in Sedgwick, CO., the son of Ascencion and Katherine Sweet Jimenez.  He attended rural school south of Brule through the eighth grade. 

John was engaged in farming with his family southwest of Ogallala.  On January 25, 1947 John married Wilma Bottrell in Ogallala.  The couple made their home on the family farm southwest of Ogallala.  In 1954 they moved to the Frates farm.  Then in January 1958 they moved south of Big Springs to farm.  In 2006 John moved to Brule and retired but maintained his Angus herd. 

John was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Brule.  His hobbies included raising cattle and gardening. 

Preceding him in death was his wife Wilma in 2006, son Joseph in 1954, daughter Joan in 1966, grandson Michael Soper II in 1978, and granddaughter Monica Lynn Jimenez in 1992. 

Survivors include three daughters: Judy (Mike) Soper of Big Springs; Janie Jimenez of Brule; and Joyce (Kelton) Korth of Ft. Lupton, CO; and three sons: John Jimenez, Jr. (Marcia) and James Jimenez, and Jay (Kim) Jimenez, all of Ogallala.  One sister Annie Alvarado of Loveland, CO.  Three brothers:  Augustine Jimenez and Sam (Erla) Jimenez, all of Ogallala; and Frank (Delia) of Big Springs.  Two sisters-in-law: Edna (Jim) Geels of Topeka, KS. and Goldie Bottrell of Eaton, CO.  Also seven granddaughters: Tina Moore of Springhill, FL; Michelle (Greg) Boggs of Hershey; Jessica Walsh of Lingo, WY; Jennifer (Sam) Evans and Joy Soper, all of Alliance; Jill Funk of Sutherland; and Shelby Bray of Ogallala.

Three grandsons: Scott (Heather) Thomas of North Platte and Jason Korth and Jared Korth, both of Fort Lupton, CO.  Also 12 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral Services were held Saturday, June 13, 2009 in Draucker Funeral Home. Rev. Jon Dickmander of Brule St. Johns Lutheran Church officiated.  

A memorial has been established to the Brule Ambulance Squad.  Interment was in the Ogallala Cemetery.
