OBITUARY
George Berlis, 90, of North Platte and formerly of Brule, died April 12, 2009 in
the North Platte Care Centre.
George was born March 15, 1919 in Memphis, TN., the son of George and Hester Speaks Berlis. He attended school in Memphis and helped in the family business called Phoenix Hotel and Cafe.
On July 3, 1941 he entered the
Air Force and received basic training at Camp
Walter, TX. As a sergeant George served in the South Pacific Theater in New
Caledonia. After being discharged on August 14, 1945 he moved to California. He
met Joan Petersen in Los Angeles. They were married in 1954. In 1957 they moved
to Denver and resided there until 1961 when they moved to Brule, Nebraska.
George drove moving trucks for Mayflower and United Van Lines. He also worked for Missouri Valley Construction before starting his own towing business which he operated until his retirement in 1976. George and Joan moved to North Platte in 2004.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and three sons Butch, Tony, and Chuck.
Survivors include his wife Joan Berlis of North Platte; one son Scott Berlis of Denver; three daughters: Linda Berlis of Littleton, CO, Belle (Martin) Enderle of North Platte, and Lori Berlis of Lincoln.
Also four grandchildren: Sarah Berlis of Littleton, CO; Derek Enderle of Fort Collins, CO.; Nathan Enderle of Moscow, ID.; and Jorden Enderle of North Platte, NE.
Cremation was chosen and there will be no visitation.
A dual Memorial Service for George Berlis and his son Charlie 'Chuck' Berlis who died March 27, 2007, will be Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home. Rev. Phil Ewert will officiate.
Inurnments in the Brule Cemetery with military honors by Ogallala Veterans Organization. A memorial has been established in George's memory.
