OBITUARY
Doris Averil Wilson, 92, longtime Arthur resident and wife of the late Charlie
Wilson, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Indian Hills Manor.
Doris A. Corfield Wilson was born July 2, 1916 in a small frame house on the family homestead in southwest Arthur County, NE. Her parents were John and Theo D. Barnt Corfield.
She had two younger brothers, Erle and Dale. They lived in Keith County for seven years and Doris attended school in their home and her parents boarded the teacher. The family returned to Arthur County where they raised cattle, hogs, chickens, turkeys, corn, and alfalfa.
Doris worked for room and board for several families and then graduated from Arthur County High School. She took Normal Training during high school and earned a teaching certificate. She attended Chadron State Teachers College for two summers and then taught the Haney and McKeag country schools for six years before her marriage.
On July 14, 1940 Doris married Charlie Wilson. The couple lived on the ranch southwest of Arthur. They had four children.
Mrs. Wilson was a devoted ranch wife and homemaker, enjoying her home, cooking, her dog, the flowers and birds in her yard, and the activities at the ranch. She especially thrived on sending cards to people for all occasions and attending her children's and grandchildren's activities.
After her husband's death in 2004, Doris lived with her daughters for the next four years. She moved into Wel Life in November of 2008 and later moved to Indian Hills Manor.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Charlie, brother Erle Corfield, granddaughter Del Rae Walz, and son-in-law Terry Jack Kramer.
Survivors include her son Delwin (Martha) Wilson of Arthur, and
Three daughters: Theo (Marv) Walz of Arthur; Dale Dee (Ron) Pochon and Lexie (Robert) Cone, all of Ogallala.
A brother Dale (Artie) Corfield and a sister-in-law Millie Corfield, all of Ogallala.
Also eight grandchildren: Marti (Troy) Brockmeier of Kearney, Mindy (Jon) Kroesche of Lincoln, Troy (Adrienne) Walz of Broken Bow, Dusty (Brandee) Wilson of Arthur, Jeremy (Kelli) Smith of Ogallala, Mackenzie (Matt) Bonig of Greenwood Village, CO, Ryan Cone and Brady Pochon of Ogallala. Also ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be Monday, April 6, at 1 p.m. in the Arthur Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Keene officiating. The casket will not be open at the church.
Interment in the Arthur Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Arthur Baptist Church and the Arthur Area Foundation.
