David L. "Dutch" Baumeister, age 62, longtime Paxton resident, died February 25, 2009 at his home.

David was born July 23, 1946 at Lynch, NE., to Louis and Alma (Emme) Baumeister. He attended country school in Boyd County, NE., west of the family farm near Butte, NE.

David graduated from Butte Public High School in 1964. He was drafted into the US Army in January 1966 and was stationed at Fort Hood, TX. He was honorably discharged in 1968.

On July 23, 1969 David married Joann E. Frasch at Burke, SD. The couple made their first home in Butte, NE. where David worked for Schoetlin Oil Co. They moved to Gregory, SD. where he worked for McMeen Allis Chalmers dealership as a mechanic.

They then moved to Jamison, NE. where they had a Purina feed business and hog operation. They moved to Joann's parents' farm near Herrick, SD where they farmed and ranched.

After this they moved back to Jamison and David worked for the Kaupp Brothers ranch. In 1975 they moved to Orchard, NE where he worked for Circle Eight Farming and in 1979 was transferred to Paxton, NE.

After they discontinued business he worked for Faulks Pipe Company. He also was employed at Spurgin Inc. before becoming the Utility Superintendent for the Village of Paxton in 1988 until his health failed. The couple also owned and operated the West Side apartments in Paxton.

David was a member of the Paxton American Legion and a member of the Nebraska Rod and Classic Car Association along with his wife Joann.

His hobbies include fishing, boating, restoring and driving classic cars with Joann, attending classic car shows, caring for his lawn and garden, designing and building additions for their home and collecting 1/18 die cast classic cars. He loved playing country music on his guitar until arthritis caused him to quit. He enjoyed listening to classic country music and watching old western movies. David was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan.

Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant sister Carol, and a brother-in-law Emil Frasch.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 40 years, Joann Baumeister, a son Chad Baumeister, and a daughter Christi and her husband Scott Orr, all of Paxton. Two brothers Bryan Baumeister and his wife Kay of Albuquerque, NM and Michael Baumeister and his wife Deana of Norfolk, NE. Brothers-in-law Alvin Frasch and his wife Linda of Omaha and Raymond Frasch and his wife Mary of Neleigh. Two sisters-in-law Carol Limburg of Chicago, Il. and Gloria Rolf and her husband Lawrence of Johnstown, CO., Also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Monday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, March 3, at 10 a.m. in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Paxton. Rev. Elwood B. Hipple, Jr. will officiate.

Interment in the Paxton Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Hankins Miller Post 303. Memorials have been established to Trinity Ev.

Lutheran Church of Paxton and the Paxton American Legion.
