OBITUARY
Mary Ardis Johnson,89, lifetime Ogallala resident, went to live with the Lord on
Friday, April 24, 2009. She passed away peaceably at Indian Hills
Manor in Ogallala.
Ardis was born November 28, 1919 in Ogallala. She was one of thirteen children born to Oscar R. and Bessie M. Cline Watson. Ardis graduated from Ogallala High School in 1938. After receiving her Normal Training she taught in the rural system for one year. On February 26, 1938 Ardis married Robert L. Johnson in Julesburg, CO.
Ardis worked for JC Penneys Store for thirty three years in all positions, including assistant manager. After retiring in 1984 she worked for her son-in-law in the insurance field for an additional four years.
Being very community-minded Ardis was involved in many organizations while raising her family and working full-time. She taught Sunday School, and volunteered in the Brownie and Cub Scouts and was also a 4-H leader.
Ardis donated much of her time to the Buddy Program at the Public Library and served as president of the Pink Ladies. She was an officer of the Keith County Retired Teachers Association and active in the Ladies Circle of the Methodist Church. She belonged to an extension club was also a current member of the RSVP.
Preceding her in death was her husband, two daughters Karen Siffring and Roberta Berg, ten sisters and one brother, and two grandchildren.
Survivors include one son Ronald L. Johnson and his wife Ronda, of Maricopa, AZ., one daughter Noreen and her husband Jim Kern of Emmett, ID., two sons-in-law Ron Siffring and his wife Evelyn of Ogallala, NE and Bill Berg of Gig Harbor, WA.; sister Donna and her husband Bob Farrow of Pendleton, OR., and her niece Jackie Cunningham of Ogallala, NE. Ardis had 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, April 30, at 11 a.m. in the Ogallala First United Methodist Church with Rev. James Miller officiating.
Interment in the Ogallala Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society and the Nebraska Commission for the Visually Impaired.
