Lorine Alice Herman Rothwell was born on January 17, 1925 in Grand Island, NE. She was the daughter of August F. and Mollie Ditter Herman.

She attended elementary school in Curtis, Nebraska and in 1942 graduated from Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis. During Lorine's high school years her parents took in students to board while they attended NSA. One of those boarders was a rancher's son from the Hyannis area named Max E Rothwell.

Lorine attended Kearney State College in Normal Training to become an elementary teacher. She taught four years in rural schools in the Curtis area.

On November 3, 1946 Max and Lorine were married in a double wedding ceremony in Curtis along with Lorine's brother and his wife. Max and Lorine lived on the Cullum place near the Arthur and Grant county borders. After the '49 blizzard Max and Lorine moved to McPherson County to be in partnership with Max's bachelor uncle William A. Rothwell. Max and Lorine inherited that ranch in 1975. They added two other ranches in the next years so that two daughters and sons-in-law could return to the ranch.

Among her hobbies were crocheting in which she won grand champion at the McPherson County Fair. She also canned a lot of her garden produce.  Collecting antiques was also a favorite pastime. Lorine was a member of Nebraska Cowbelles which is now Nebraska Cattlewomen, a 50 year member of Eastern Star, and the Helping Hand Club which she was a sixty year member.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Max, son Glenn, and brother Malvin.

She is survived by her Four Daughters:

Visitation is Sunday, August 17, 2008 ~ 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala.

Funeral service will be at the Hyannis Congregational Church Monday, August 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.
with the Rev. Vonne Andersen officiating.

A memorial has been established to the Hyannis Congregational Church or to the donor's choice.
