 OBITUARY

 
 Dewayne Melvin, 97, of Mullen, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in the Pioneer Memorial Rest Home in Mullen. 

Dewayne was born August 7, 1914 in Sutherland, Nebr., the son of Clarence and Lillie E. Brown Melvin. He attended country schools in Lincoln County.

On June 20, 1936 Dewayne married Emma M. Huffman in Alliance, Nebr. The couple resided on the Ira Huffman Ranch near Lena, Nebr. where Dewayne was employed for nearly twenty five years.

In May 1959 the couple moved to the William Musser Ranch near Tryon and continued to reside there until moving to the Mullen nursing home in May 2010.

Dewayne was a member of the Stock Grower's Association.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his daughter Carol L. Moran in 1992, and his son Wayne M. Melvin in 2006, his son-in-law Woodrow Moran in 2006. Also three brothers: Kenneth, Bill, and an infant brother; and four sisters: Phila Mae Conner, Mary Melvin, Arba "Toots" Houpt, and Alice Robertson.

Survivors include his wife Emma Melvin of Mullen; one brother George (Norma) Melvin of Bastrop, TX., Daughter-in-law Claudia Melvin of Arthur; nine grandchildren: Vernon Moran and Jackie (Rocky) Stewart, all of Sutherland; Tammy (Dick) Simonson of Mullen; Ron (Vickie) Moran of Smithsville, MO; Vickie Moran of Scotland, SD; Elke (Glen) King of Enning, SD; Dru (Brittany) Melvin of Ponca City, OK; and Ty Melvin and Meka Melvin, both of Arthur. Ten great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

The family will greet friends during the Visitation on Thursday, January 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Arthur Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be Friday, January 13, at 1 p.m. in Arthur Baptist Church. Rev. Ben Keene and Tom Huffman will officiate.

Interment is in the Arthur Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory.
