OBITUARY
Kathleen "Billie" Nichols, 95,
longtime Ogallala resident, died Saturday, November 5, 2011 in Indian Hills
Manor.

Kathleen was born August 19, 1916 in Chapman, Nebr., the daughter of Louis and
Minnie Dye Powell. She was renamed 'Billie' by her brother and remained so all
her life. She attended elementary school in Central City, Nebr. graduating from
high school there.
Billie attended cosmetology school in Grand Island and then moved to Ogallala.
She established her own beauty salon. She met Waldo Nichols in Ogallala and they
were married June 9, 1937. The couple made their home in Ogallala.. When they
semi-retired from farming Billie and Waldo moved to Sun City, Ariz., and resided
there more than 33 years.
In 1999 Billie and Waldo moved to Greeley, Colo. to be closer to family. Waldo
passed away in December of 1999 and Billie continued to live in Greeley until
moving to Ogallala in 2008.
Billie was a life member of the Methodist Church and belonged to the PEO. Her
hobbies included golfing, meeting new friends, helping others, gambling, and
shopping.
Preceding her in death was her husband Waldo, daughter-in-law Jean Nichols,
brother Kenneth Powell, and sister Bernice Getko.
Survivors include her son Mick Nichols and special friend Phyllis Reed, both of
Ogallala and her daughter Christine and her husband Bill Havens of Greeley, CO.
Four grandchildren Tracie and her husband Scott Phebus of Greeley, CO.; Derek
Harper and his wife Cyndi of Windsor, CO.; Lizabeth and her husband Sam O'Connor
of Keystone; and Daniel Nichols, presently in Gardez, Afghanistan; and nine
great-grandchildren.
At the request of the family there will be no visitation. Cremation was chosen
and there will be a Memorial Service on Wednesday, November 9, at 11 a.m. in the
First United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Rager officiating.
