OBITUARY
John Kercher, 94, longtime Ogallala resident, died Saturday, June 4, 2011 at
Indian Hills Manor.

John Theodore Kercher was born September 21, 1916 at Reliance, South Dakota.,
the son of Jacob and Clara Lorang Kercher. He received his elementary education
in Reliance and then graduated from high school in Marmarth, North Dakota in
1935.
He entered military service in 1943 as a mechanic in the Air Transport Command
in the
Army Air Corps. John was discharged in 1946 as a staff sergeant. He returned to
Ogallala and worked at several car mechanic jobs, retiring in 1992 from Ogallala
Public Schools in the maintenance department.
On January 6, 1948 John married Marian Lamb in Grant. The couple lived in Grant
and Ogallala. John was a member of St. Lukes Catholic Church. He was a long time
member of the
American
Legion Post 135 and was a life member of the
Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 3755. He loved watching basketball and football and enjoyed
working in the yard.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers: Leo, Leonard, and Earl;
and sisters Freida Peterson, Rose Mostek, Lucille Schmidt, and Irene Claymon.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Draucker Funeral
Home. The graveside service will be Wednesday, June 8, at 10 a.m. in the
Ogallala Cemetery with military honors by Keith County Veterans Organization.
Father Bryan Ernest of St. Lukes Catholic Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Callahan Cancer

Survivors include his wife Marian Kercher, three daughters: Mary Morris, Linda
Kercher, and Joan Kercher, all of Ogallala. Grandsons Duane (Samantha) Morris of
Landisburg, Penn. and John Morris of Ogallala; Four great-grandchildren: Dameon
Morris, Dylan Morris, Bethany Morris and Blake Morris. Sisters-in-law Esther
Lamb of California and Lavon Kercher of Colorado and numerous nieces and
nephews.
