 OBITUARY

 
Wayne Volberding, 78, of Ogallala, died Monday, July 12, 2010 at Indian Hills Manor.

George Wayne Volberding was born December 3, 1931 in Akron, Colorado, the son of George and Alice Sherman Volberding. The family moved to a farm southeast of Ogallala. Wayne attended rural schools and then graduated from Ogallala High School in 1949.

The family moved to a farm southwest of Brule and Wayne was engaged in farming with his father. In 1954 Wayne married Gladys Kraft in Phoenix, AZ. The couple made their home on the family farm. In 2001 Wayne retired and moved into Ogallala.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, watching baseball, and horseback riding. He was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and a member of the National Rifleman's Association.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Gladys, sister-in-law Marge Nelson, and brothers-in-law: Don Gosnell, Clarence Ebke, Willie Griffith, Phil Kraft, Albert Nelson, Peter Kraft, and Manon Kraft.

Survivors include his son Rod Volberding and his wife Ginny of Ogallala; daughter Shandra and her husband Jim Bescheinen of Lincoln; mother-in-law Lucille Kraft of North Platte.  Three sisters: Betty Ebke of Julesburg, CO, Sherri Gosnell of Brule, Bernice and her husband George Mercer of Ogallala.  Six grandchildren: Deidre and Shane Volberding; Julie, Joshua, Lucas, and Hannah Bescheinen and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 13, from 1 to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, July 14, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, July 15, at 10 a.m. at Draucker Funeral Home. Rev. Ron Krause of Grant Zion Lutheran Church will officiate.

Interment in the Ogallala Cemetery. Memorials have been established to St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Ogallala and Nebraska Children's Home.
