OBITUARY
Milford Francil, 89, lifetime Keith County farmer, died March 5, 2010 in the
Garden County Nursing Home in Oshkosh, NE.

Milford was born November 9, 1920 in Ogallala, NE., the son of Louis and Clara
Krepel Francil. He attended country
school near their home north of Brule. He graduated from Ogallala High School
with the Class of 1939.
On May 9, 1941 Milford married Lois Peterson of Arthur, NE. On August 21, 1942
he entered the
US
Army-AirForce at Fort Warren, WY. He received his basic training in Kearns, UT.
He served as a motorcycle military policeman, airplane engine mechanic, and post
electrician. Serving during World War II he fought in battles and campaigns in
Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France, and in Central Europe. Milford was a
carbine sharpshooter and was a sergeant in the 31st Mobile Repair and
Reclamation Squadron.
After being discharged on November 1, 1945 in Fort Leavenworth, KS. he returned
to farming and also worked for his father-in-law Henry Peterson in Arthur
County. Milford also was employed as a gravel truck driver and helped with the
building of Kingsley Dam. Milford's hobbies including welding.
When he was 32 years old Milford became paralyzed with polio and was in an iron
lung. His love of farming was so strong he rode long hours on the tractor with
his Uncle Vincent John Francil. With the help of his wife Lois, he farmed again
and the family lived in Milford's grandmother Anna's house on the farm. He
retired in 1999.
Milford was a member of St. Lukes Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign
Wars.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Lois in 1991, two sister Irene
Kaps and Phyllis Vasa; and two brothers Johnny Francil and Edgar Francil.
Survivors include his daughter April and her husband Brad Harms and their son
Garrett, all of Brule, NE.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 7, from Noon to 5 p.m. and on Monday, March 8,
from 9 a.m. to the time of Rosary Service at 5:30 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 9, at 10 a.m. in St. Lukes
Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest the Celebrant. Interment in the
Ogallala Cemetery with military honors by the Keith County Veterans
Organization.
