 OBITUARY


Lowell Bloomquist, 75, longtime Ogallala resident and businessman, died Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Ogallala Community Hospital. 

Lowell was born March 19, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN., the son of Edward and Vivian Hansen Bloomquist. In 1944
the family moved to Spicer, MN. where Lowell enjoyed fishing and working as a fishing guide on Green Lake.
He graduated from high school in Willmar, MN. in 1952.

On December 2, 1952 Lowell entered the Navy. He then served two years as a radar and sonar instructor at
the Naval Air Station in Camp Middleton, TN. and also attended Memphis State College. .

On February 2, 1955 Lowell married Alice Pickens. The couple made their home in Hopkins, MN. while he attended
the University of Minnesota and majored in electrical engineering. Lowell was employed at Minneapolis Honeywell where he was involved in the space industry and helped design parts for several space shuttles.

From 1968 to 1976 Lowell and Alice lived in several cities where Lowell worked designing capacitors.
In 1976 they moved to Ogallala and Lowell was employed by TRW until his retirement. Lowell then bought Don's Lock and Key and operated the business until his death.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and bowling. Lowell was the first person elected to the Ogallala Bowling Hall of Fame.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers Merenes Bloomquist and Leonard Bloomquist.

Survivors include his wife Alice Bloomquist of Ogallala, three sons: Dennis (Estell) Bloomquist of Clifton, CO; Michael (Jeanelle) Bloomquist of Ozark, MO; Ron (Christy) Bloomquist of Durango, CO. Two sisters: Janet (Larry) Fleck of Regal, MN and Marsha Malquist of Willmar, Minnesota. A sister-in-law Mary Bloomquist of New London, MN. Nine Grandsons and two granddaughters, two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Cremation was chosen and there will be no viewing. A remembrance gathering will be on Monday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m. at Cornhusker Lanes Bowling Alley.
