OBITUARY
Charles Edwards, 91, longtime Ogallala resident, died at his home June 28, 2010.
Charles Fredrick Edwards was born March 23, 1919 at Grant, NE, the son of
Fredrick William and Cora Bell Pringle Edwards. He received his education at
District #53 in Perkins County, NE, and grew to manhood in the Grant, Nebraska
area.
Mr. Edwards entered the armed services July 1, 1944. He served in Guam as a Very
Heavy Equipment Operator for the
Army Air Force. He was involved in the Go 33 WD
Air Offensive Japan Western Pacific. He was awarded the Distinguished Unit
Badge, American Theater Ribbon, Apt Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, and Good Conduct
Medal. Mr. Edwards was a corporal at the time of discharge May 24, 1946.
Charles farmed and worked for farmers in the Grant and Ogallala areas as well as
spending some twelve years as a lumberjack in the redwoods of California. His
last employment was with Frank Svoboda for whom he worked several years.
Charles was a member of the United Methodist Church and the
VFW Post
3755. His hobbies included horseback riding and dancing.
Preceding him in death were his parents, first wife Jeanette Keaneen Edwards in
1984, three brothers Tharin, Evert, and Delbert and two sisters Nellie and Lila
and step-son-in-law Harold Irwin of Lincoln.
Survivors include his wife Doris Edwards of Ogallala, and step-children: Bill &
Bess England of Lincoln, Bill & Jody Reutzel of Ogallala, Richard & Peggy
Reutzel of Ovid, CO., Elden & Bonnie Kokes of Grand Island, Roy & Sue Reutzel of
Paxton, and Nila Irwin of Lincoln. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 a.m. to
6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be Friday, July 2, at 10 a.m. in Draucker Funeral Home with
Pastor Duane Dunwoody officiating.
Interment in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell on Friday, July 2, at
2 p.m. CDT with military honors by Paxton's Hankins-Miller American Legion Post
303. A memorial has been established to Paxton's Hankins-Miller American Legion
Post 303.
