OBITUARY
Verna Kwiatkowski, 97, longtime Ogallala resident, died on Wednesday,
December 30, 2009 in Colorado Springs, CO.

Verna was born October 21, 1912 in Ashton, NE.,
the daughter of Albert and Constance Wolinski Curtis. After completing the
eighth grade, she worked with her parents on their farm.
On October 12, 1931 Verna married Ben Kwiatkowski in Ashton. The couple resided
on a farm near Ashton and then moved to Omaha. She followed her husband's work
to Lexington, NE., Monks Corner, SC., and in 1976 moved near Lake McConaughy.
Verna's was employed at various jobs including Cudahy Packing Company, a laundry
mat, a boot factory, and a cap and gown distribution. She was a loving wife,
mother, and a friend. Her favorite pastimes included fishing, gardening, playing
cards, reading, and spending time with her family. Her greatest joys were her
grandchildren and she taught them the importance of working hard and playing
hard. Verna was called "The Lake Grandma" and everyone loved to visit her.
She was a member of St. Lukes Catholic Church.
Preceding her in death was her husband Ben Kwiatkowski; two sisters Genevieve
Polski and Frances Slobzewski; and two brothers Ben and Stanley.
Survivors include her son Ed Kwiatkowski and his wife Judy of Colorado Springs,
CO; her brother Harry Curtis of Ravenna, NE., seven grandchildren, 14
great-grandchildren, and nine great-great- grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 5, from 9 a.m. to the time of the Rosary at
5 p.m., both in Draucker Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be
Wednesday, January 6, at 10 a.m. in St. Lukes Catholic Church with Father Bryan
Ernest the Celebrant.
Interment in the Ogallala Cemetery.
