 OBITUARY

 


Clementena "Tena" Thompson, 92, longtime Brule resident, died Sunday, December 27, 2009 in the Ogallala Community Hospital. 

Tena was born February 16, 1917 in Sherman County, Nebraska, the daughter of John and Bridget Kosmicki Palu. She attended Loup City elementary school. Later on Tena moved with her family to Perkins County, Nebr. where she helped on the family farm.

In 1942 Tena married Stanley Sheldon and the couple made its home in rural Perkins County until moving north of Brule in 1948. They purchased a farm and resided in a sod house.

After Stanley preceded her in death in 1966, she continued to live on the farm. In 1970 Tena began to work as a cook for the Ogallala Community Hospital, a position she held for nineteen years. In 1973 Tena moved into Brule and also was employed at several cafes in Big Springs and in Ogallala.

Tena then was employed by Home Health Care and was a caregiver for ten years. After Tena retired she enjoyed spending time being a grandmother and gardening.

Preceding her in death were her two husbands: Stanley J. Sheldon in 1966 and Ollie Thompson in 1989; a daughter Rhonda Leonard in 1998; Two sisters: Regina Spahn and Casmier Westerbuhr; and two grandchildren: Clayton Guest and Tommy J. Guest.

Survivors include three sons: Jim (Linda) Thompson of North Platte, Lance (Sue) Sheldon of Belgrade, MT, and Don Sheldon of Brule. Three daughters: Janice Guest of Minnesota, Roberta (Robert) Pringle of Pueblo, CO., and Merna (Richard) Verhagen of Ogallala. Son-in-law Joe Leonard of Ogallala.  Two brothers: Clarence Palu of Madrid and Ivan Palu of Grant. One sister Eleanor Jackson of Sacramento, CA; and special daughter Denise Moorhead of Brule. Also 23 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 30, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be Thursday, December 31, at 10 a.m. in First Baptist Church in Ogallala with Rev. Curtis Tschetter officiating. A memorial has been established in her memory. Interment in the Brule Cemetery.
